Heavy Sentinel

Description

This is a kitbashed model of my concept of what a Heavy or Assault Sentinel would look like in the Warhammer 40K universe. My inspiration for this monstrosity was the Scout Sentinel. I thought to myself if they bother having the word scout in front of Sentinel, does that mean that there are other classes of them?
The model was built using parts from the Sentinel sprue, the Dreadnought sprue, and the Vehicle Accesories sprue, all from Games Workshop. The arms were inspired by ones found through Forgeworld but are scratch built (I did not want to drop $50 just for two pieces...)
For painting all paints used are acrylic. I based the entire model using Model Master Aircraft Interior Black. This provides a good bond between the plastic or pewter and a good texture for later layers of paint. I wanted this model to have an aged look so I followed up the black with a dark brown and finished with a drybrushing of steel for the bulk of it and brass on specific details such as the flamethrower nozzle and exhaust shrouds. Once it was metalized I applied rubber cement to the high wear areas that I would want the metal underneath to be exposed to further the aged and abused effect. The main plates were hit with a dull yellow found commonly on construction equipment. Once that was dry I was able to rub off the areas that had the rubber cement leaving a pockmarked and heavily worn effect that looks realistic. The remaining painting was pretty standard such as with the driver and the base. Everything was finished up with a black ink wash over the entire model to bring out all the little details and specific areas of neglect were touched up with a pin wash and stippling of rust.
